The Brisbane-based MakMax Australia will manufacture and install a 4000m² tensile membrane roof over Rockhampton’s landmark Southside Memorial Pool.

The $17M Federal, State and Regional Council funded project will feature MakMax’s architectural membrane roof over the main 50-metre pool.

Partnering with Brisbane’s Liquid Blu Architects and Rockhampton builder JM Kelly (Project Builders) Pty Ltd, MakMax will manufacture the architectural membrane roof in Ferrari PVC, providing both shade and rain protection over the 50m pool and 650-seat grandstand.

The tensile membrane roof will be fabricated at MakMax’s Brisbane facility later this year with installation of steelwork scheduled for January 2013 and membrane to follow.

Designed by Liquid Blu Architects to handle State and National swimming events, the pool will comply with the highest FINA rating, and is also expected to be a destination for international swim teams during the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

The MakMax project team is currently detailing workshop drawings for the manufacture of the steelwork, membrane and hardware.

MakMax Australia has over 28 years of experience in tensile membrane with in-house capabilities consisting of design, engineering, fabrication, installation and maintenance of HDPE, PVC, PTFE, ETFE and cable net structures.
