The 7th Making Cities Liveable Conference is all set to kick-off with only one week left for the event.

Taking place at Mantra on Salt Beach in Kingscliff on the NSW and QLD border from 9th to 11th July 2014, the 7th Making Cities Liveable Conference includes 70 presentations, four informative workshops and two study tours including a presentation by Suzette Jackson from Deakin University who will speak on Developing Food Resilience in Cities.

Australia’s rising population in urban areas is increasing the need to develop food resilience within the cities. Urban food systems are getting degraded by the day due to reasons such as urban sprawl, limited water resource, poor soil quality and reduced opportunity for productive landscapes within the urban and peri-urban areas.

An integrated approach for productive urban landscapes, water cycles, food access and nutrition is needed to improve city resilience, creating productive landscapes in urban and peri-urban areas in urban food systems.
