When 23-year-old Jacques Jacobie, a fit, energetic boy from Longreach, sustained serious spinal injuries in a motorbike accident in June 2020, doctors believed he may never walk again. The accident changed his and his family’s lives forever.

With mounting expenses from the medical bills, travelling to and from Brisbane for treatment and ongoing therapy, the community of Longreach set up a support line to assist in taking a small amount of financial burden off his parents, Elaine and Christo during this difficult time.

Remodelling the family home was a priority since Jacques required a space (including an accessible bathroom) that could accommodate his needs and allow him to be at home and begin the long journey of rehab and treatments.

Lauxes Grates was made aware of Jacques’ accident through Smith Bros Construction (Longreach) who sent an email regarding the purchase of a linear grate for the bathroom renovation. Though Marty Smith did not ask for a donated grate, however, when the opportunity presented itself, Lauxes was more than happy to make a difference and offer their support in ensuring the Jacobie family home would be suitable for Jacques when he was released from hospital.

“To be able to offer a small donation by way of a grate from Lauxes and see it make such a huge difference to Jacques’ ongoing care and treatment is incredible. He’s a real champion and it’s wonderful to play a small part in his incredible journey, both now and for years to come,” Sue of Lauxes Grates said.

“We hope this small token by way of donation helps Jacques and his family on the road to recovery and we appreciate the builder reaching out to Lauxes Grates to be part of the project to have his home fitted out in time for Christmas 2020.”

The team at Lauxes Grates wishes Jacques and his family all the best for their road ahead. At Lauxes, we love being part of these amazing stories and are always ready to give back to, and assist our communities during times of need.
