The Transperth Information Centre by Hart Architects and a stunning mid-century modern Sydney terrace kitchen by Scott Weston Architecture Design won Laminex Australia’s Project of the Year awards, with each winner taking home a $10,000 business grant.

Commercial Project of the Year: Transperth Information Centre, Hart Architects

The vibrant Transperth Information Centre located at the historical Perth Railway Station, won the Commercial Project of the Year award. Designed as a light, bright space that uses colour to communicate, the project features Laminex laminates in bold colours coordinating with the train lines to make it easier for people to get to where they want to go, in the process also creating a striking visual design.

Residential Project of the Year: Zetland Kitchen, Scott Weston Architecture Design

The Residential Project of the Year award went to the refurbished terrace kitchen located in Zetland, Sydney, which blends a mid-century modern vibe with a contemporary architectural edge while taking a refreshing approach to colour and materials. A custom-designed island inspired by 1950s colours uses Laminex laminates in bright pops of colour. Large sliding blue laminate doors conceal a guest WC, laundry and walk-in pantry to complete the surprising space.

The Project of the Year awards in the hotly contested residential and commercial categories were decided by a jury of talented industry professionals and Laminex Australia representatives including Rina Cohen of Rina Cohen Designs, Adele Bates of Adele Bates Design, Sue Coles of Baenziger Coles, and Laminex Australia’s Group Design Director, Neil Sookee.

Though the range of high quality commercial and residential projects impressed the judges, the two winning entries by Hart Architects and Scott Weston Architecture Design truly stood out.

Laminex Australia’s Group Design Director, Neil Sookee said that the projects were extraordinary and the judges were unanimous in their decision. He explained that both winners created beautifully crafted and inspiring spaces that were thoroughly engaging.

Now in its second year, Laminex Australia’s 2015 Project of the Year received 78 entries by Australian fabrication, building design and specification businesses. All residential or commercial projects completed from December 2014 and featuring Formica, Laminex or essastone products were eligible to apply.
