Kingspan Insulation has been named in CDP’s Climate “A” List for the second successive year. CDP is an international not-for-profit organisation that measures the environmental impact of thousands of companies around the world. The 2016 Climate “A” List identifies 193 companies as “A” grade for their actions in reducing emissions and mitigating climate change.
Kingspan was included in CDP’s Climate “A” List in recognition of their insulation products helping customers reduce annual energy consumption by 148,600 million kilowatt hours – equivalent to six times the annual energy consumption of Dublin City. The only Irish listed company on the list, Kingspan has confirmed it’s on track to achieve its commitment of Net-Zero Energy use at its facilities by 2020, with renewable energy use across more than 90 manufacturing sites to account for 57% of its consumption in 2016.
Kingspan CEO Gene Murtagh said that the climate change agenda was core to Kingspan’s vision and will continue as an integral part of their approach to doing business as they expand their global footprint. With the building sector contributing around 30% of global annual greenhouse gas emissions and consuming up to 40% of all energy, the insulation sector has a crucial role to play in helping countries hit the new targets set in last year’s Paris Agreement.
Congratulating the 193 “A” List companies, CDP’s chief executive officer Paul Simpson noted that companies were key actors in enabling the global economy to achieve its new climate goals, and the leadership of this group pointed the way for others to take bold action and capitalise on the many opportunities.
The Climate “A” List has been released the week before the Paris Climate Change Agreement comes into force on 4th November. To date 85 of the 190 parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change have ratified the agreement.
