A walk behind corer from the groundcare section of Kennards Hire was recently used as a fast, economical means for renovating a golf course in south-western Sydney.

The greens at the Riverlands golf course were badly damaged by a water pump problem, and the corer was used in the second stage of their renovation. The walk behind corer was also employed to rejuvenate a number of tees.

Bob Morse, Operations Manager, said they would normally have used a tractor-drawn aerator, but the walk behind corer equipment worked out better for timing and was also more economical.

“It did an excellent job and in quick time – we did 18 greens in five to six hours,” he said.

“The young guys working with me mastered it very quickly. It is easy to use, very manageable and certainly follows the contours of the greens.”

The hire equipment company also has several other types of aerators for the professional upkeep of golf courses, sporting fields and other large green areas. This range of equipment includes the Aera-vator, a popular piece of equipment for broad acre aeration, and is ideal for sports fields, school ovals and golf fairways.

The deep tine aerator is another option. It can aerate to a depth of 350mm, with solid tines and coring tines available.

Also available is the earthquake aerator, which has a unique wave action that shatters the soil.
