A fleet of 16 all-terrain utility vehicles was among a wide range of equipment provided by Kennards Hire for the scouting movement’s 2010 Australian Jamboree.

Kennards also supplied other hire equipment including:

  • Several utility vehicles with specially fitted ladder racks
  • A 1.5 tonne transit van
  • Tractor
  • Trailer
  • 6in trailer-mounted pump
  • Mini excavator
  • 9in chipper
  • 20kVA trailer-mounted generator
  • 4000psi water blaster

The theme of the 10-day event was “Test your Limits” and centred on Cataract Scout Park south of Sydney and was attended by 13,000 Scouts, leaders and volunteers.

Mike Wright, the deputy director of site infrastructure, said they were very happy with Kennards’ equipment, particularly the all-terrain utility vehicles, which were “invaluable for getting into nooks and crannies and ensuring the safety of the kids”. But, Mike added, it was the service that stood out even more.

“The Kennards guys were absolutely fantastic,” he said. “It seems like nothing was too much trouble. If ever we had a problem, the response was a quick ‘no worries, we will sort it.’”

Peter Oliver, assistant chief commissioner (development & communications), said hire equipment was a vital component of the operation.

“We had to build a city from nothing in a month, using volunteer labour and a modest number of contractors,” he said.
