PIPE cameras, which take the guesswork out of drain problems, are offered by Kennards Hire . The unit can be used on sewer and water pipes, drains, fluelines and ductwork, from 40 mm to 150 mm in diameter. It connects to 240V, but can also run off a supplied rechargeable battery, which comes with a charger. The camera head, which is attached to a 20m flexible rod with metric markings, can be pushed around bends of up to 87°. Images are relayed back to the LCD monitor and can be saved for later transfer to a CD. Luke Wallace, of Bartlett Plumbing Services, says the pipe camera was an excellent unit. “It saves a lot of time and effort by removing the guesswork,” he elaborates. “You can see on colour video exactly where the problem is and how bad it is. Most of the time, it will be tree roots or a collapsed drain. Instead of digging up a whole driveway, you can target the problem area.”
