Kennards Hire  has entered the Tasmania market by opening a hire centre in Launceston.

The Launceston branch is the first step towards establishing a network of equipment hire centres in Tasmania.

The move will enable Kennards Hire to serve existing customers in Tasmania better, while also benefiting local contractors and businesses by providing strong, new competition in the hire industry.

The new outlet at 184 Wellington Street in Launceston follows the acquisition of the long-established family business, Carey Hire.

Carey Hire owner Ross Carey says Kennards' profile as a family-owned company was a major factor in his decision. Carey Hire’s three full-time staff have joined Kennards.

Kennards Group chief executive John Tolmie said that the Tasmania move was a major step towards completing a national branch network. Kennards Hire plans to set up a network of hire centres in the state, with Hobart an obvious choice along with one or two other locations.

Mr Tolmie said that long-term plans involved expanding some of the company’s specialist equipment operations into Tasmania.

These include Kennards Concrete Care, Kennards Lift & Shift and emerging businesses dedicated to big pumps, big generators and traffic management.
