A standout feature in the lobby of the new Crowne Plaza Hotel in Christchurch is a striking custom ceiling designed using architectural mesh from Kaynemaile™.

Working in collaboration with design firm Designworks, Kaynemaile created the custom ceiling feature, which takes inspiration from the winding Avon river while creating warmth and intrigue for arriving guests.

Set to become a premium destination for international and local visitors to the rebuilt city centre, the new Crowne Plaza Hotel in Christchurch has been repurposed from an office block tower, and is now the largest hotel in the city. The hotel is designed to offer 360-degree views of the city as well as the natural environment of the surrounding Port Hills and Southern Alps. The interior design has been executed by Designworks.

The custom ceiling feature for the hotel lobby features Kaynemaile’s copper mesh ribbons, which are lit from above to introduce warmth to the space. Since the mesh allows approximately 80 per cent airflow through the cross sectional open area, air compliant movement can be maintained in interior spaces as well as exterior screens, expanding the scope of application.

The Crowne Plaza Hotel is the latest in Kaynemaile’s list of collaborative projects, with the firm working directly with architects and interior designers to realise complex projects.
