InSound provided a JBL solution with Crown CTS amplifiers as part of the refurbishment of The Oaks Hotel, one of Sydney's most iconic hotels. The Oaks is situated in the heart of Neutral Bay, just ten minutes north of the Harbour Bridge.

The $4 million refurbishment included the magnificently renovated bar & grill designed by Paul Kelly with dark colours, funky lights, beautiful wooden finishes, stone walls and tartan carpet.

The audio visual requirements for the bar & grill, as well as the 1936 bar and function rooms, were met by InSound.

InSound managing director Bruce Ensor explained that this area of the venue was serviced by JBL Contractor speakers previously; however, the owners wanted to increase the sound output.

InSound installed sixteen JBL AC18/26 compact 2-way speakers and four JBL AC16 ultra compact speakers plus four of the new JBL ASB6112 passive subwoofers, which were hidden in the seating. The equipment gives mass coverage for the whole place along with great sound quality.

A Soundweb London BSS BLU-160 network signal processor is controlled via a computer in the office so that each individual pair of speakers can be set to different volume levels, treble or bass. The staff can control the system via iPads. Eventually the entire hotel will run on BLU-Link.

The 1936 bar was also given a new sound system to replace the existing JBL system.

InSound upgraded all the speakers and the amplification, going from one subwoofer with a 12” driver to two JBL ASB6118 subwoofers with 18” drivers. The existing JBL speakers were moved down the end of the room where the seating was situated and four JBL AM5212 speakers were installed to service the dance floor. A couple of Crown CTS amplifiers power the system.

The upstairs function room has eight JBL AC18/26 Compact loudspeakers and two JBL ASB6112 passive subwoofers with Soundweb London BSS BLU-120 signal processing and Crown CTS amplifiers.
