Clearlight Shows in Melbourne installed an ETC Ion lighting control console at St Leonard’s College in Brighton for use in their main hall where they produce three major musicals each year.

The ETC Ion lighting control console replaced an existing but aging Jands Event console that had delivered many years of trustworthy service but needed to gracefully retire.

Ron Gavin, St Leonard’s Multimedia Administrator and Production Technician explained that the college needed a console that could control LEDs and moving lights. After considering a Strand console, they decided on the ETC Ion lighting control console on Clearlight’s recommendation.

Providing fully integrated control of conventional and moving lights, the ETC Ion has a powerful effects package, alongside marking and timing functions. Though the college has only done one musical with the Ion so far, Ron says they are convinced of its ability to do what is required. He found operating the moving lights with the Ion very easy while the LED control was even easier because of the colour picker.

ETC Ion lighting control consoles are designed for user-friendly operation. Featuring an extensive fixture library, Ion already has a pre-programmed profile for just about any moving light or fixture. Once the right fixture is patched in from the library, it is extremely easy for even new users to focus the lights and create a cue or lighting look.

Ron also rates the training DVDs for the ETC Ion highly.
