The IronPlanet online auction on 23 August attracted heavy equipment buyers from around the world, with a significant level of interest from the Australasian region.
The auction, which featured a broad range of heavy equipment, drew bidders from all over the world. The auction was viewed by global audience of potential buyers, 93 of whom were located within Australia and New Zealand. The buyers included contractors, dealers, rental companies and farmers. The inventory included 384 items, which received on average 20 bids each at a median purchase price of US$24058.
The top seller on the day was a 2005 Caterpillar 385BL Track Excavator, which sold for US$300000. The dump truck attracted 69 bids, eventually going to a buyer in Florida USA. Other big ticket items included a 2002 Caterpillar D8R II Track Dozer which sold for US$222000 and a 2001 Volvo A40D Articulated Dump Truck which sold for US$181000.
One of the most contested items was a 2004 Fecon BH74 Bull Hog Head Chipper which received 106 bids before it was sold for US$9600 to a buyer in New York.
Australian and New Zealand buyers made the most of the range of loaders and mini excavators available, and purchased a number of items. Equipment purchased included 2001 Volvo A40D Articulated Dump Truck for US$140000, a 2003 Volvo A35D Articulated Dump Truck for US$161000, 2005 Caterpillar 305CR Mini Excavator for US$33000 and a 2006 Caterpillar 287B Multi-Terrain Loader for US$36000.
