Sydney’s revitalised Darling Harbour precinct will play host to Australia’s largest annual gathering of architects, designers, building specialists, construction experts, manufacturers and suppliers when DesignBUILD returns to Sydney next 3-5 May.
Over the past few years, DesignBUILD has firmly established itself as an industry nexus, leveraging partnerships with peak industry bodies and new industry alliances to deliver an event that is a true reflection of what industry collaboration can do.
For the first time, DesignBUILD will co-locate with long-term partner, the Australian Institute of Architecture’s National Conference, creating an architectural hub at the new International Convention Centre (ICC), Sydney.
"The Australian Institute of Architects and Diversified have had a long and successful relationship since 2010," said Jennifer Cunich. CEO Australian Institute of Architects.
"We are extremely excited about 2017 and the co-location of DesignBUILD with our 2017 National Conference at the new International Convention Centre in Sydney. We look forward to building on the success of our 2016 DesignBUILD program and using the opportunity presented by the new venue to further develop the cross industry dialogue and collaboration that is fast becoming a trademark of this event."
“We’re excited to able to position the products innovations that DesignBUILD brings together alongside the leading thinkers taking part in the Institute’s National Conference, “ said Ali Mead, DesignBUILD Event Manager.
“We are working extremely closely with the Institute to ensure both DesignBUILD and Conference delegates get a unique perspective of the current state of our industry but also receive unprecedented access to this brand new venue, through a series of bespoke breakfasts, lunch and cocktail functions, as well as exclusive behind-the-scene venue tours.”
The move to the new ICC also means that the 2017 event will be able to open up new channels to explore the feverish expansion of the Sydney skyline and public infrastructure through comprehensive content and educational partnerships.
DesignBUILD 2017 will see the Sydney launch of DesignBUILD RAW an exciting initiative to showcase the very best of emerging talent, run in partnership with the University of New South Wales, University of Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney.
In reference to the new collaborations, Mead reflected that DesignBUILD is a true realisation of what industry collaboration can do. “It is only through working closely with our partner associations and exhibitors that we have been able to develop projects such as DesignBUILD RAW and Incubator, which we hope to continue to drive innovation and creative thinking in our industry by raising the awareness of the fresh talent coming up through the community.”
DesignBUILD will return to Sydney in 2017 at the brand new International Convention Centre, Sydney, on 3 – 5 May. The 2017 event is already set to be 20% larger than previous year and 40% larger than the award winning 2015 event, the last event held in Sydney.
Now in its 31st year DesignBUILD is Australia’s ultimate industry event for landscape & outdoor, structural & materials, interior fixtures & finishes and building technology products. The 2016 event in Melbourne brought together over 6.600 architects, designers, building contractors and senior decision makers for 3 days of collaboration, new product launched and to share industry insights. The event achieved a 13% increase in visitor attendance and had a show floor that was over 20% larger than previous events.
