Australian architect and design firm, Russell and George, have taken two World Retail Awards at the 2012 International Store Design Awards Gala in Times Square, New York.
Russell and George were shortlisted at the World Inside Awards in Barcelona for their work on the Crumpler store at Doncaster, Victoria. Their store design had won them the Winner of the Soft Line Specialty Store category, as well as the Special Award for the Innovation Materiality category.
“Crumpler Doncaster aims to reinvent the notion of a traditional retail interior, with the store and its display fixtures essentially built from the materials of the high quality bags it sells” said Ryan Russell, in partnership with Byron George at the firm.
Russell and George’s Doncaster Crumpler store design featured webbing used in bag straps, rubber lining and powder-coated steel, which both reflected the elements of Crumpler goods and used to create the space. The architectural design demonstrated a connection between the shop, the brand and its products.
“We’re passionate about creating exciting (retail) spaces with unique sensibilities, and working with such an innovative brand has been a real highlight” said Russell.
“The Retail Design Institute’s international recognition of the Doncaster Crumpler project is a tribute not only to our design team, but also Crumpler’s ethos of doing everything better”.
