Co-founder of America’s Better Block, Jason Roberts will present at the 6th Making Cities Liveable Conference being held in conjunction with the Sustainable Transformation Conference 2013.

Jason Roberts has initiated several community change projects in his hometown of Dallas, Texas, including forming the non-profit organisation, Oak Cliff Transit Authority in 2006 to revive the Dallas streetcar system, and later spearheading the city’s effort in garnering a $23-million dollar Federal Government grant to bring back a modern streetcar system to the city.

In 2010, Jason organised a series of ‘Better Block’ projects, taking underused blocks in Southern Dallas and converting them into temporary walkable districts with pop-up businesses, bike lanes, cafe seating, and landscaping. The project has now become an international movement featured in the New York Times, Dwell magazine, TED Talks and on National Public Radio.

Jason will reveal the universal ingredients to staging a successful Better Block project and the potential, long-term benefits generated by these temporary neighbourhood transformations.
