Profoto Digital Services, a one-stop advertising graphic solutions provider headquartered in Singapore has invested in cutting-edge latex ink printing solutions from HP.

Profoto delivers end-to-end design, digital printing as well as events staging, window display and showcase design, building and installation services for high profile clients.

“The business landscape for us has changed over the years,” says Johnny Lam, Consultant, Profoto. “We are no longer a digital print provider. In order to meet the demands of our clients and maintain our edge in the highly competitive printing industry, we have diversified and positioned ourselves as a complete advertising graphic solutions provider.”

But with this change comes a different set of challenges. Profoto’s clientele includes some of the biggest names in the luxury fashion industry like Gucci, Hermès and Prada.

Expectations in terms of print and service quality are much higher and very often, the company is required to deliver high-quality results within a short period of time.

The company is no stranger to the advantages that come with HP’s printing solutions. Early 2009, Profoto saw printouts produced by HP Latex Printing Technology and was very impressed by the print quality.

“HP’s Latex Inks technology is also a good technology to have because of its green aspects,” says Lam.

Designed with the environment in mind, HP Latex Printing Technology offers print service providers (PSPs) a compelling new printing alternative for a wide variety of outdoor and indoor applications.

Together, HP Latex Inks and HP Thermal Inkjet Technology provide durable and odourless prints, sharp and vivid image quality, application versatility as well as high productivity – all of which enable PSPs to grow their businesses while reducing the total impact of printing on the environment.

The HP Designjet L25500 is a highly versatile commercial printer that uses water-based HP Latex Inks, which provide benefits of solvent-ink technology without imposing the typical environmental, health and safety considerations.

The printer is also capable of producing outdoor signage with durability comparable to eco-solvent inks. Additionally, the printer delivers the high quality required for indoor signage, which is often viewed close up such as in exhibition graphics and interior decorations.

The HP Designjet L25500 prints on a wide range of media including coated media or polyester fabric and low-cost papers without treatments.

Another advantage of the HP Designjet L25500 is that it enables Profoto to eliminate measures that it had to take to ensure their staff’s wellbeing when using solvent ink. Previously, it had to ensure that workers wore masks and that the room was well ventilated as solvent ink contains chemicals that are harmful to people.

“The HP Designjet L25500 allows us to provide an improved working environment for our staff,” says Lam. “Its water-based HP Latex Ink is odourless and not harmful to our workers.”

This eco feature of the printer makes it perfect for printing displays for enclosed, sensitive indoor areas such as restaurants and hospitals with no compromise in print quality.

“Thanks to the HP Designjet L25500 Printer, I don’t need to see my workers in masks anymore,” adds Lam.

For Profoto, another advantage of the HP Designjet L25500 printer is its ability to deliver easy, automatic, low maintenance printing.

Lam says: “The printer requires very minimal maintenance and this contributes to our productivity. Once it is up and running, we don’t need anyone to manage it.”

Post-print production is also made easy as prints come off the printer dry and ready for lamination, packaging, shipping and display.

The HP Designjet L25500 printer ensures quality by leveraging sophisticated media advance controls and automatic nozzle testing. This ensures defect-free prints to help PSPs avoid ink and media waste.

In addition, the HP Optical Media Advance Sensor (OMAS) controls the media as it advances through the printer to minimise banding at high speeds.

The Optical Drop Detector (ODD) automatically tests the drop ejection performance of every printhead nozzle to produce prints free of defects.

“At the end of the day, we want to deliver high quality products to our clients. Quality is what differentiates us from the competition and the HP Designjet L25500 printer has helped us achieve that,” says Lam.
