HIA welcomes Government decision to repeal carbon tax

    Housing Industry Association

The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has welcomed the decision of the Government to repeal the carbon tax. A legislation to this effect was passed by the Senate recently.

According to HIA Chief Executive Industry Policy and Media, Graham Wolfe, HIA has always made its stance against the carbon tax clear ever since it was introduced as it represented yet another burden on one of the most heavily taxed sectors in the economy.

The carbon tax has had a direct impact on energy production costs, which in turn flowed through the manufacturing and fabrication phases of building material, product and assembly production, impacting domestic manufacturing, jobs and material input costs in building new homes.

According to Mr Wolfe, the repeal of the carbon tax was a key part of HIA’s 2013 federal election platform to help revive the housing industry.
