Honeywell Safety Products Australia Pty Ltd (previously Sperian Protection) offers a range of roof worker kits designed to protect workers against falls from height.

Available in three different models, the roof working kits are part of Sperian’s personal protective equipment range and consist of a harness, a webbing tie-off and an anchorage line with a Type-1 fall arrestor in a handy carry bag or backpack. The roof working kits protect workers on all types of roofing jobs.

Falls from height are a major workplace hazard and result in fatalities and injuries across a broad range of industries with the construction industry alone accounting for 27% of all related claims. Domestic and professional roofers face a constant risk of falling, slipping or tripping when installing roof frames and cladding.

Workers involved in roof installation or roof framing work are exposed to falls when appropriate control measures aren’t in place at the worksite. Suitable fall protection equipment must be worn to minimise the risks when working from any height over two metres.

Adequate fall protection equipment includes harnesses and proper fall arrestors, lanyards or anchorage lines as found in the roof worker kits, which are designed specifically for working on roofs.

Harnesses in the roof worker kits include attachment points at the front and rear of the harness, allowing flexibility when selecting a suitable anchorage point.

Tips for correctly installing anchorage lines:

  • Anchorage points should be pre-determined before commencing work on any roof as they allow connection to an anchorage point on the opposite side of the roof to which the person is working
  • If an anchorage point is not readily available, temporary points designed specifically for domestic or commercial roofs can be installed
  • Type-1 fall arrestor on the anchorage line connects to the worker’s harness and arrests a fall within millimetres
  • Webbing tie offs allow for  an anchorage point to be created
