Greene Fire supplied FireMaster Concertina active fire curtain barriers to achieve fire separation in the intertenancy stairs at the TAL office fitout in New South Wales.
Designed by Geyer Architects for the developer, Shape Australia, the office required fire separation in the intertenancy stairs for levels 10 – 14.
Fire curtains are widely used within office fitouts to fire separate intertenancy stairs. Standard systems require lateral side guides to retain the fabric curtain edges and prevent integrity failure. These are also required to work in combination with AS 1668.1 for zone smoke pressurisation systems.
Greene Fire supplied their FireMaster Concertina fire curtains to suit design constraints across the five floors in both ‘L’ and ‘U’ configurations. While standard systems would have needed supporting columns or posts to interface with, Greene Fire’s system removed this standard requirement, saving costs and increasing visibility. The tested side retention system was incorporated at all those places where the system connected back to the existing fire rated walls.
The AS 1668.1 compliant zone pressurisation system was proven to achieve the minimum 20Pa pressure differential on all floors as well as work as high as 60Pa across the face of the fire curtain barrier, about 3 times as high as when tested for fire resistance.
Greene Fire’s FireMaster Concertina fire curtains incorporate a unique obstruction sensing system to monitor the area underneath the barrier’s vertical path of travel with a local voice notification providing an alert if the obstruction exceeds 3 minutes. This was combined with flashing light beacons and specific signage for the TAL fitout.
