Gineico Lighting introduces a new range of LED downlights featuring a 20mm emission hole that delivers the same output as a full-sized downlighting fixture.

Representing a new breed of discreet architectural lighting, the Buzzi & Buzzi Genius downlights are designed to disappear into the recessed ceiling space, providing an aesthetic alternative to conventional downlights.

The Genius series responds to customer demands for ambient lighting solutions that can create the desired mood and deliver optimum performance in diverse architectural spaces. Available in 10 different versions, Genius downlights vary in both lumen and size depending on the design. The small downlight punches out as much as 800 lm.

The Genius range includes white (that is painted into the ceiling colour), black, brass, round, square, curved, slope, dim to warm, dynamic and twin versions. The downlight’s versatility even extends to installation flexibility, with the Genius series suitable for all surfaces including but not limited to wood, marble, metal and concrete.

Genius downlights allow for simple installation and maintenance: The lighting body is pre-mounted on the cladding panel and installed on surfaces 5mm to 20mm thick in a cavity of 80mm. A push-pull mechanism allows the light bulb to be easily extracted and replaced, unlike conventional downlights that may require the ceiling to be broken to access the light in the absence of a maintenance hatch.

The Genius range has IP20 protection grade but also includes the Genius Naked IP65 that is used in bathroom and outdoor applications.

Pierluigi Gambacorti, Gineico lighting director and Buzzi & Buzzi national distributor says, "The innovative push-pull mechanism from the light emission hole is only 20mm wide, as big as a $2 dollar coin. The Genius downlight becomes the feature with the hole disappearing when the light is off.”

Thanks to the push-pull mechanism for changing the bulb, the Genius range offers long-term savings to the client, he noted.

Gambacorti observes that the Genius downlights are being used by architects, interior designers and lighting engineers in both domestic and commercial residences for their ease of installation. Describing the Genius series as ‘Italian designer lighting at its best’, he adds that its high-quality workmanship and luminaire housing are standout features.

The downlight is made from AirCoral, an innovative material created by Buzzi & Buzzi from a combination of natural and aggregating elements that make the fixture extremely resistant to high temperatures, knocks, scratches, fire and thermal shock. The product is also inert, totally non-allergic and dust repellent.

Josh Watt from award-winning interior design firm Hecker Guthrie specified the Genius range for a Melbourne townhouse. Describing the Genius as a remarkable fitting, Watt said that it was almost entirely concealed, providing a huge amount of light through a tiny aperture. The light draws attention to itself because it’s so inconspicuous, while leaving the ceiling clean of visible function, he said.

Watt added that the Genius series also included a family of fittings for wet areas.
