Godfrey Hirst Australia collaborated with leading architecture and interior collective, Milieu Creative to create a series of bespoke carpets for The Royal Hotel during its restoration.

Built in 1882, The Royal Hotel is a landmark establishment in the heart of Perth with a rich history going back to the heady days of the Western Australian gold rush. Engaged for the refurbishment, Milieu Creative was given a brief to merge the hotel’s heritage pub provenance with twenty-first century hospitality spaces. The design, therefore, needed to seamlessly integrate original features such as the wrought iron balustrading, wraparound verandah, exposed ceiling beams and arched fenestration with a contemporary aesthetic.

GH Commercial’s specialist design team sought to emphasise the individual style and character particular to specific areas of the hotel, integrating several custom Designer Jet sheet patterns in distinct hues to define and delineate each space. A first in the Southern Hemisphere, Designer Jet is a world class technology that drives Godfrey Hirst’s capabilities in custom carpet creation.

Bespoke carpets for different spaces

The Trilliards Room at The Royal Hotel features a striking navy and gold pattern carpet inspired by the region’s rich prospecting past. A subtle grey and granite design in The Lounge offers a discreet counterpoint to key artworks and old-world furnishings. Exposed brick and timber beams in the Private Dining room background create a dramatic space that’s enhanced by a riotous rust and cream design. The fine dining space, Fleur provides a contrast with Feltex Cable Bay in 770 Haven, a simple carpet with a cut pile twist. Finally, two tones of repeat patterned pink work in unison in the retro-styled Karaoke Room.

The magic of Designer Jet carpets

The Designer Jet technology uses precision engineering to inject dye into the pile, taking any striking pattern, drawing or image to create a bespoke carpet unique for the project. This technological innovation offers designers genuine design flexibility by giving them the freedom to select the surface texture, product size, backing type and colours to suit their projects.

Designers can create bespoke carpets based on their own creative vision or have one made in consultation with GH Commercial’s in-house design team. With an almost limitless palette of shades to choose from, designers can create a unique Designer Jet carpet in as little as 3 weeks from placement of order – the lead time for delivery depends on the size of the project.

Available in tiles, planks and sheets, Designer Jet can be produced on 1.96m wide carpet rolls, tailor-made for hallways and corridors. Since the size can be customised, the carpets are not only easy to install but also have reduced potential for wastage compared to traditional broadloom carpet. All Designer Jet carpets are stain resistant and independently rated contract heavy or extra heavy under the Carpet Institute of Australia’s Australian Carpet Classification Scheme, making them ideal for community spaces.

Designer Jet products are officially certified Declare Red List Free. The carpet production process also meets exacting sustainability and toxic-free chemical standards, using less water, chemicals and dyes than traditional methods, with any carpet waste diverted from landfill and recycled through the company’s 3R program.

Completely Australian designed and manufactured, Designer Jet carpets come with multiple advantages for designers and clients with zero design fees, smaller minimum order requirements, rapid production turnaround and a budget-friendly price point, making the technology the perfect choice for beautiful, high performance flooring, guaranteed to impress.
