Gerard Lighting was contracted for a major lighting project at the Kingsway Sporting Complex in Madeley, Western Australia. A multi-million-dollar community sports centre, Kingsway Sporting Complex went through a complete redevelopment of their facilities to encourage more people to engage in local sporting activities. Gerard Lighting has previously installed their lighting systems in several sporting areas at the Kingsway Sporting Complex including five soccer, two rugby and one AFL fields and a few training zones.

The latest lighting project involved the installation of LED lighting systems at 30 netball courts within the complex.

A key challenge for Gerard Lighting was to ensure there was sufficient illumination at the Kingsway Netball Courts without affecting the adjacent sporting fields. The lighting also needed to meet the requirements of AS2560 2.4 – 1986 recreation and training level, which meant an average of 100 LUX at 0.5 uniformity ratio.

The Sylvania Briteline LED Raptor was selected for this project, primarily for its control capabilities, which made this luminaire much superior to competitor products.

According to Gerard Lighting Western Australia Regional General Manager Dino Panebianco, of the two luminaires specified for the project, they had the Sylvania Briteline LED Raptor approved as they were confident their choice would get the best results while also meeting the Netball AS2560.2.4 training and competition standards requirements.

An important advantage of the Sylvania Briteline LED Raptor luminaire is an optical reflector system that delivers exceptional performance and precision, with the floodlight distributing light exactly where it’s needed, providing better control, lower glare and less spill light, to increase efficiency and reduce impact on neighbouring courts or residents.

Gerard Lighting takes a hands-on approach in the execution of their lighting projects with the team stationed onsite during the aiming process to make sure it’s done correctly, and coordinating with the contractors to provide real-time solutions to any issues.

The unique mounting system design of the Sylvania Briteline LED Raptor allows for over and under slinging on the pole cross-arm, enabling the installer to correctly aim the floodlight to avoid obstructions and maximise light delivery.

The Gerard Lighting team also assisted the contractor with LUX testing, which provided accurate data to the councils and consultants involved.

Going forward, Kingsway Sporting Complex will benefit from the ability of Sylvania Briteline Raptor LED floodlights to not only reduce energy and maintenance costs but also turn the LED lights on and off when needed without any cooling down or warming up period.
