Gerard Lighting was engaged by Landcorp, the Western Australian Government's land and development agency, to provide the complete lighting scheme for ‘The Quarter’ in Karratha city.
Karratha, Aboriginal for ‘good country’, is located 1,557 kilometres north of Perth on Nickol Bay. Situated in the heart of the city, The Quarter is a new destination for residents, businesses, shopping and community events, and consists of 46 apartments designed to accommodate the service workers of Karratha, in addition to commercial and retail spaces.
Completed in 2016, The Quarter is characterised by a bustling city square, cool, shady streets, contemporary architecture and a rich street culture unique to the Pilbara.
Gerard Lighting was given a brief to deliver a comprehensive and contemporary lighting design within an assigned budget. With access to a wide variety of brands and options, Gerard Lighting provided a cost-effective lighting design that met the desired quality objectives as well as Australian Standards and compliance requirements.
Working with their in-house R&D team, Gerard Lighting devised a sustainable lighting solution based on current LED technology, using a combination of Crompton, Pierlite and DOT LED light fittings to reduce the ongoing maintenance factor for this remote location project.
The Quarter project was a finalist in the Commercial Medium Project Category at the 2016 WA NECA Excellence Awards, receiving a commendation on the night.
