Futurewood supplied two of its
composite timber products for external cladding and decking to a beautiful
holiday home located in Melbourne’s suburb of Blairgowrie on the Mornington Peninsula.
Situated between the calm waters
of Port Philip Bay and the wild winds and seas that roar northward from Bass
Strait, the holiday home is directly exposed to the elements 24x7, especially
the salty sea-driven winds.
Since the owners used the coastal
property as a holiday home, they sought decking and cladding products that
could be used externally, would stand up to the extreme environment, and have minimal
maintenance requirements.
Bryant Alsop Architects of
Hawthorn Victoria accepted the challenge, being aware of timber alternatives such
as CleverDeck and EnviroSlat from Futurewood.
Futurewood’s CleverDeck decking
and EnviroSlat weatherproof cladding are both WPC composite timber products
designed to withstand the extreme Australian climate. Unlike forest-grown
timbers that require constant ongoing maintenance to reduce the risk of
breakdown and rot from exposure to the elements, Futurewood’s WPC products will
not rot, warp, split, twist, or splinter and will survive this harsh
environment with ease. Futurewood’s composite timber products also do not need ongoing
maintenance.
The composite timber products
from Futurewood meet the owners’ design brief, allowing them to enjoy their
beautiful home without having to invest time and money in maintaining any
timber component.
Tim Rogers-Wilson of TRW
Constructions, the builder on the project said that he found Futurewood’s
CleverDeck product easy to work with and install; using Futurewood’s NewTech deck
clips, the builder was able to significantly reduce the installation time and achieve
a beautifully concealed fixing. Tim also appreciated the support received from
the Futurewood staff.
Futurewood EnviroSlat weatherproof
cladding was used on the project’s exterior for the same reasons CleverDeck decking
was specified by the architects. Similar to CleverDeck, EnviroSlat weatherproof
cladding is a WPC product that will not warp, split, twist or rot and doesn’t
require ongoing maintenance. All of Futurewood’s WPC products have the colour
running right through the product, eliminating the need to paint or oil the
boards as they come prefinished and ready to use.
For
this particular coastal property, the owners wanted a colour that would
complement the surrounding landscape so they chose Futurewood’s Slate Grey
colour for both the decking and the cladding. Futurewood’s CleverDeck decking
comes with an indented grain pattern and choice of five standard colours
including Mahogany, Slate Grey, Saltbush, Walnut and Chocolate (other colours
on request against minimum order quantities). Futurewood’s weatherproof cladding
comes with a standard course sanded finish and is available to order in a wide
range of colours.
