The Durban office of major international food producer RCL Foods features vibrant floors in brightly coloured resin finishes from Flowcrete, infusing energy into the environment as well as portraying a high-end image of the brand.

Located in Westville’s Westway Office Park, the new building was designed to provide a creative environment using materials that would also meet the specific demands of each area. Various floors were specified to cleverly meet both the aesthetic and operational demands of the site.

For instance, the Test Kitchen was a focal point of the new office, and needed to be both a visually stunning showroom as well as a practical area for cooking. About 311 square metres of Flowfresh SR Ultra installed in a bespoke blue colour to match RCL Foods’ corporate branding connected the space to the visual identity of the business.

As a very durable polyurethane system, Flowfresh was specified for the application for its ability to survive the temperature variations, spillages, chemicals and impacts inherent to a busy kitchen environment. This HACCP International certified system provides the highest possible hygiene levels by incorporating the antibacterial additive Polygiene within the floor, enabling it to eliminate up to 99.9% of bacteria in contact with the floor finish.

The colourful interior design scheme was extended across the building with 272 square metres of Peran SL Fruity flooring installed in the 18 male, female and disabled toilets. The designer used an extensive palette of colours, including Tomato, Kiwi, Grapefruit, Tangerine, Spearmint and Plum to create unique looks for each toilet facility.

Flowcrete’s Peran SL Fruity is seamless and impervious, making the floor quick and easy to clean, and helping retain the fresh look of the floor for an extended period of time. Being robust, the epoxy system can withstand the constant foot traffic as well as exposure to cleaning chemicals, scuffs and scrapes.

Visitors and staff to the RCL Foods office are greeted with a colourful and energetic environment as they enter, thanks to the decorative floor in the lift lobby on each level of the building’s three-storey car park. This was achieved by installing 378 square metres of Peran STB, an epoxy resin floor coating in a sleek, dappled grey colour in the lobby areas to provide a pleasant transition from the car park to the office.

This combination of floor finishes meant that the new RCL Foods office would have a vivid, contemporary and on-brand surface underfoot that would also be able to withstand the various challenges of the busy workspace.
