The new Hong Kong Velodrome has installed high performance flooring solutions from Flowcrete to maintain global standards for sporting events.
Given that the floors across the facility would be subjected to constant traffic, wear and use, it was important to ensure an exceptionally durable flooring solution was specified and installed. Flowcrete supplied 25,600 square metres of high performance flooring for the new Hong Kong Velodrome to ensure the floor would not only maintain a clean, reliable and attractive finish but also pass global scrutiny during prestigious sporting events.
Executed over a period of 15 months, the installation was completed in time for the Velodrome’s packed schedule of sporting events including the UCI Track Cycling World Cup.
Due to the prestigious nature of the competition, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) stipulated that the venue’s flooring must be of the highest possible standard. Identified as the perfect fit to provide world-class flooring for the elite sporting venue, Flowcrete’s high performance solutions were specified for the project.
Flowcrete Hong Kong supplied 10,000 square metres of the high-build epoxy resin coating Flowcoat SF41 to ensure that the floor would maintain an effective and attractive appearance, an important factor during high-profile global events.
A 3mm, dark grey Flowcoat SF41 surface was applied across the spectators’ stand, the central basketball pitch and in the back-of-house areas followed by 15,000 square metres of Heavy Duty Isocrete K-Screed, a high strength screed that can withstand substantial levels of traffic. Proprietary additives incorporated within the screed material ensured an early drying time, allowing for the flooring project to be completed faster than traditional screed systems.
The installers had to exercise extra care when applying the Heavy Duty Isocrete K-Screed and Flowcoat SF41 in the stair areas to ensure a uniform finish was achieved. The flexible polyurethane deck coating Deckshield ED was also applied on 600 square metres at the roof level of the Velodrome’s exposed car park deck.
Flowcrete’s high performance flooring solutions have provided a surface befitting the leading sports venue. The Velodrome flooring project is the latest milestone in Flowcrete’s successful track record of working on high profile stadia and arena projects around the world such as Wembley Stadium, Soccer City Stadium and Perth Arena.
