Flowcrete participates in discussion on low VOC materials at Emirates GBC

Flowcrete Middle East’s Business Development Manager, Vik Vithlani joined a discussion on the importance of low VOC materials at the Emirates Green Building Council’s (EGBC) Indoor Air Quality Networking Seminar in June this year.

Held at DEWA’s Sustainable Building in Al Quoz (Dubai), the largest government building in the world that has secured a LEED Platinum rating for green buildings, the seminar included a discussion on the need to use low VOC building materials during the construction process so that indoor air quality was maintained for future occupants.

Vik was invited onto the panel by EGBC as a certified LEED AP (Accredited Professional) and expert on the positive impact of low VOC coatings for indoor air quality. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are gases emitted from certain solids or liquids that can cause short and long term health issues for the building’s occupants, a critical issue given how a significant section of the population spends up to 90 per cent of their time indoors.

The panel discussion on low VOC materials stressed the need for education throughout all stages of the construction process, ensuring that construction professionals and facility owners were aware of the low VOC material options available from suppliers, especially paints and coatings manufacturers.
