Resin flooring solutions from Flowcrete were chosen for the interiors of the luxurious Arte S residential complex in Penang.

The Arte S is the tallest building on Penang Island at 49 storeys, and offers spectacular ocean views or jungle-covered mountain vistas to residents staying on its upper levels. Set to change the skyline of Penang with its architectural brilliance, Arte S comprises of 480 units of extravagance and style, a lifestyle structure on the 35th floor, an entertainment space for residents to entertain guests, and a small POD containing the world’s first ‘hanging’ jacuzzi.

Given the panoramic views and impressive architecture, the interior design needed to reflect the striking exterior – Flowcrete’s flooring solutions were chosen to accomplish this design outcome.

Flowcrete is a global manufacturer of resin flooring solutions for the commercial and industrial sectors. Thanks to over 35 years of experience supplying high performance screed and coating systems, Flowcrete has become a popular flooring partner for large-scale construction projects around the world.

Bright colours were chosen for the lobby flooring to beautifully complement the lavish building design and the colourful furniture. This was achieved with 382 square metres of Flowtex PT, coated with the self-smoothing epoxy resin Flowshield SL 1000 in Steel Grey and striking pink hues.

Flowtex PT is a heavy duty power trowelled epoxy screed suitable for receiving a variety of decorative, hardwearing floor finishes. Product benefits such as high impact resistance and minimal undulation make this underlayment ideal for areas that are subject to high traffic and impacts.

For visual continuity, the unique PODs located on the 36th and 37th floors were decorated using the same flooring systems as the lobby in the same colour variations.

The seamlessness of Flowshield SL 1000 makes the floor much easier to clean as there are no joints to collect dirt, while its abrasion resistance maintains the flooring’s aesthetic in the face of footfalls, scuffs and scrapes that can be expected in busy lobby and communal areas.

Deckshield UV Linemarker was utilised to generate a freeform geometry design that reflected the shapes used in the architecture of the lobby walls. In addition to creating a modern design, these crisp white lines cleanly separated the contrasting hot pink and grey hues.

Flowseal UV Satin, a solvent-based polyurethane floor sealer with a satin finish was used for the stairways. Installed in an area covering 14 square metres, Flowseal UV Satin provides abrasion resistance and allows simple maintenance.

Thanks to the UV stable properties of both Flowseal UV and Deckshield UV Linemarker, the floor’s colour would also be protected against fading from prolonged exposure to sunlight. With glass windows being a large part of the architecture of the building, this was an important consideration for both the lobby and the PODs.

The flooring project was completed in just 15 days and the complex was able to welcome residents and guests to explore the newly decorated spaces right on schedule.
