A Sydney-based building designer won four design awards in Milan for his unique eco-house.

In addition to the coveted Gold Award in the ‘Residential Sustainable Products, Projects and Green Design’ category, Chris Knierim’s Sydney-based Designer Constructions Group took out three awards in architecture, interior and landscape design at the A’ Design Awards in Milan.

Fitted exclusively with Fisher & Paykel appliances , the award-winning home will be featured on Channel 7’s Better Homes & Gardens on Friday May 16th. Chris Knierim recommends Fisher and Paykel products on most projects.

Forest Lodge Eco-house in Sydney is a two-storey terrace in concrete, aluminium and glass, in contrast to the stone and timber cottages in the neighbourhood. Features such as solar-heated concrete slab foundation, double glazing, insulating roof garden, and an 8m vertical garden wall contributed to the multiple honours in Milan.

Chris explains that they increasingly specify Fisher & Paykel on most projects because it offers a combination of the right features, energy-efficiency and the sleek look desired by customers.

At Eco-house, Chris’ home in Sydney’s inner west, the designer’s priorities were environmental sustainability, the carbon print of the build and the way its elements contribute to a streamlined look. He used only local materials and appliances, which met energy and design standards.

According to Chris, Fisher and Paykel’s range is one of the very few in the market in which all appliances have beautiful finishes and offer standard lengths, widths and heights right through to details such as handles so that absolutely everything matches perfectly to create a very linear, sleek look.

Marketing Manager for Fisher & Paykel, Kara May says the company is delighted its products were chosen by Chris for his award-winning design.

After comparing the Star energy and WELS water ratings for several brands followed by specifications on energy use, Chris found Fisher & Paykel the best fit for sustainable function and aesthetics. He observes that the range features beautiful finishes and high functionality, making it the winning combination of form and function sought by clients today.

Forest Lodge Eco-house was opened this year by City of Sydney Lord Mayor, Cr Clover Moore, to promote sustainability in city homes with small footprints. In addition to featuring on Better Homes & Gardens, the house has been showcased on television’s Grand Designs Australia, and is featured in the Grand Designs magazine in its latest issue.

Fisher & Paykel appliances at the Knierim home include the CookSurface Cooktop, Pyrolytic Built-in Oven, VentSurface Rangehood, Built-in Combination Microwave Oven, Built-in Coffee Maker, CoolDrawer, Integrated Refrigerator, Integrated Single DishDrawer Tall, AeroXL Condensing Dryer, and WashSmart 8.5kg Front Loader.
