A PV solar power system is designed to capture the sun's energy to generate electricity for use in residential dwellings or commercial businesses. It is also becoming the most affordable and increasingly popular means of energy source.

A recent report suggests that household power bills have increased significantly over the last four years. Combine this with increasing costs of living, it's no wonder more and more Australians are turning to solar power.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), there has been a significant increase in the use of solar energy for heating water:

Solar energy was used by 7% of Australian households for heating water in 2008, nearly double the use in 2005 when 4% had solar hot water. The increase was noticeable in all states and territories between 2005 and 2008. A factor in this increase may be the introduction of State and Federal Government schemes offering rebates on the installation of solar hot water systems. The use of solar power for hot water systems doubled between 2005 and 2008 in New South Wales (2.5% in 2005 to 5% in 2008) and increased in Victoria (1% in 2005 to 3% in 2008), albeit from small bases. More than half the households in the Northern Territory (54% in 2008) used solar energy to heat water, up from 42% in 2005. More than one in five (21%) households in Western Australia had solar hot water.

Installing a solar power system means you could be eligible to receive Government rebates such as the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).

Other key advantages of installing a solar panel system are:

  1. low maintenance
  2. long term savings
  3. save non-renewable energy resources
  4. environmentally friendly option
  5. wide range of uses or applications
  6. reliable and infinite free energy resource
  7. no uninterrupted power supply
  8. reduce reliance on fossil fuels from overseas
  9. set an example for others by raising environmental awareness
  10. increase property value
