Enware Australia is contributing to a unique initiative that focusses on providing more facilities in public bathrooms to support the needs of people living with disability. The ‘Changing Places’ initiative aims to expand the area and facilities available within an accessible toilet to accommodate the changing needs of people, particularly adults with severe disabilities.

Existing accessible bathrooms are not designed to fully cater for children and adults with severe disabilities. This can be a very humiliating and degrading experience for them, especially when their carers are forced to change them on the floor of public bathrooms. Apart from the obvious unhygienic and undignified experience, it may also put the carer at risk of strain or injury.

A Changing Places toilet must provide a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench, a tracking hoist system, space for a person with a disability and two carers as well as a non-slip floor in a safe and clean environment.

Enware’s nursing bench is an ideal addition for a Changing Places accessible bathroom.

Six Changing Places accessible bathrooms have been rolled out in Victoria during 2015 including in high profile locations such as the Rod Laver Arena, MCG and Melbourne Zoo.
