Adding an element of colour to a child’s bedroom helps to create a fresh space and enhance their mental stimulation, inspiring creativity and imagination.

Using colour to create the decorative finishes of striping, stencilling or feature walls, can easily transform a child’s plain white room which can be effortlessly updated as the child grows and their tastes change.

Dulux ’s leading Colour Forecaster Andrea Lucena-Orr explains that inspiration for colour choice is as simple as looking in the child’s room.

“Using one, or a combination of accent colours found in the child’s linen, toys or furniture adds dimension and a sense of cohesiveness to the room,” she says.

Andrea Lucena-Orr suggests that children should assist with colour choices, so they can create their own individual spaces into a room they will love.

“Give kids three schemes to choose from. They are usually pretty quick to make their decision. There have been many instances where parents have had to repaint because the child was not consulted and didn’t like the outcome,” she says.

Popular colour trends for children’s rooms include greens, blues and subtle metallic silvers for boys; purples, pinks, lemon and soft metallic gold’s for girls; and darker bold shades for teens.
