Sydney-based design consultancy, CampbellBarnett, undertook the creation of an evocative brand for the Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre, an important new facility and the focus of multicultural activities in Australia's national capital, Canberra.

The identity project called for a dynamic visual solution echoing the colourful cultures that were soon to tenant the Centre located adjacent to the Civic Library and opposite the ACT Legislative Assembly on Civic Square.

An important element of the project was the creation of building signage that was in sync with the significant heritage status of both the building and the Square upon which it sits.

Munns Sly, project architects for the development, designed a contemporary structural solution; a light weight, stainless steel ‘spider’ construction, which ‘floats’ over the square and minimises the impact of the structure on the fabric of the building. Both Munns Sly and CampbellBarnett chose DigiGlass for the building signage project.

Six 8m glass blades overlook Civic Square and make a dynamic and colourful counterpoint to its formality, while a strong graphic overlay throughout the Centre differentiates the numerous tenancies.
