Australia’s premier design and architecture exhibition, DesignEX , is now well underway as exhibitors get into the second day of the event, and for some continue the celebrations of their success at last night’s DesignEX 2010 New Product Awards.

With great visitor attendance yesterday, and even more expected today, and the many outstanding products on show, 2010 is shaping up to be another fantastic year for DesignEX.

Last night’s DesignEX 2010 New Product Awards, held at the newly refurbished Sydney Town Hall, saw beauty, excitement, and innovation as it was shown once again how the best ideas in contemporary design can be brought to life in Australia.

This year’s judging panel focused on the essentials of excellence in design, appraising functionality, aesthetics, durability, versatility, safety and environmental sensitivity.

Winners to be congratulated include:

  • Bosch Home Appliances for the Ecologixx Condenser Dryer (Appliances Category) 
  • Xflo for the Skape Bath by Karim Rashid (Bathrooms Category) 
  • Dulux for AcraTex InfraCOOL Technology (Building and Construction Systems Category) 
  • Lift Shop for Freedom Lift (Building Technologies Category) 
  • Katsu Glass Design for ArtGlass (Decorative Accessories Category) 
  • Centro Architectural for the S1E Eco-Screen (Doors & Windows Category) 
  • Locker Group for Atmosphere (External & Structural Products Category) 
  • Cloth Fabric for Dawn from the Land wallpaper for Porter’s Paints (Fabrics & Prints Category) 
  • Academy Tiles for Liquidfloor LIGHT (Flooring Category) 
  • Spence & Lyda for Tio (Furniture Category) 
  • CaesarStone for Motivo (Internal Surface Finishes); and 
  • Brightgreen for Brightgreen (Lighting Category).
All 81 entrants have their new products on display in a dedicated feature area on the show floor located in Hall 4 of the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour.

The DesignEX Interior Design Awards will be held tonight at the Sydney Town Hall.

Yesterday also saw the DesignEX Best Stand Awards announced. With many outstanding stands this year the judge’s decisions were not easily made. The winners for Best Stand are as follows:

  • Minka Joinery – under 30m₂ 
  • ABET – 30-70m₂ 
  • Hafele – under 70m₂
The action continues for DesignEX 2010 today with a new Seminar Series schedule underway, set to discuss and touch on a range of hot topics, including ‘Shooting for the Stars’ with Neil Walters and Karen Garret. Exhibitors will also be shining their stands for the Better Homes and Gardens TV crew, who will be onsite filming today.

DesignEX 2010 will be open from 9.30am – 6.00pm Friday 23 April, and from 9.30am – 5pm Saturday 24 April.
