CSR Gyprock was once again selected as the preferred internal linings supplier for the massive renovation project undertaken by the five couples from the popular television show, The Block.
Situated on Fitzroy Street, in the heart of downtown St Kilda in Melbourne, the Gatwick was an art deco hotel that had suffered years of neglect before being taken up for renovation. Over an intensive and challenging three-month period, the couples remodelled two penthouses and four apartments, transforming them into show-stopping, three-bedroom, two-bathroom homes with sweeping views of Melbourne.
The successful renovation project saw this season of the show deliver outstanding auction results with the units going for amounts between $2.770m and $3.020m.
Key objectives of the renovation included returning the façade of the once-rundown hotel to its former glory using fresh and bright rendering to breathe new life into the exterior, and maintaining the original heritage features of the Gatwick building. Each apartment pays homage to the property’s heritage and acknowledges the diverse inner-city suburb in which it’s located.
Design highlights of the two top floor penthouse apartments include four-metre ceilings with skylights allowing for an abundance of natural light to flood the interiors; banks of floor-to-ceiling windows illuminating open-plan interiors; luxurious kitchens complete with a butler’s pantry and state-of-the-art appliances; beautiful parquetry and herringbone flooring; and spectacular, large terraces showcasing the best of outdoor living.
The four apartments on the floors below boast large-scale living spaces, ideal for entertaining, alongside alfresco terraces designed for use all year round. Each home features fully equipped kitchens and butler pantries, proving that luxury living is not just exclusive to the penthouse apartments.
CSR Gyprock, a partner of The Block for over five years, was once again selected as the preferred internal linings supplier, appearing alongside a number of other CSR building products, including Bradford insulation, Monier roof tiles and AFS formwork.
Working within a strict budget as well as a tight timeframe for the project, the contestants relied on Gyprock’s products and service offering to continuously meet the demands of delivery times without sacrificing build quality.
Gyprock Plus plasterboard lines the walls of the building’s interiors, with Gyprock Supaceil fixed to the ceilings throughout. The Optimised Core manufacturing technology in both products makes them significantly lighter with greater breaking strength. Easy to handle and install, Plus and Supaceil are fixed and jointed with premium Gyprock compounds and adhesives to deliver long lasting results.
“Gyprock is proud to come back for another year to support The Block with quality plaster products that helped deliver these stunning apartments,” says Alisha Mykytowycz, Gyprock Marketing Communications and Brand Manager.
