Safebridge, an innovative roofing system developed by Bradford Insulation (CSR) and Metroll provides designers with a solution that reduces liability at the design stage, leading to a safer construction site.

Safebridge was awarded the National Safety Council of Australia Awards of Excellence, Winner of the Best Solution of an OHS&E Specific Workplace Risk Award in 2011.

The Safebridge roof system is designed to improve worker safety and reduce OH&S risk during construction by eliminating a number of hazardous design elements.

The new model OH&S regulations specifically state that ‘a designer of a structure must ensure that it is designed so as to eliminate the need for any hazardous manual task to be carried out in connection with the structure’.

In addition to being a better way to design safer roof systems, Safebridge ensures that designers have control over design liability from concept through to construction, without adding cost to the project.

Safebridge has been extensively tested during development as well as proven during construction of a number of new projects over the past 12 months, including Masters Hardware in Queensland.

The Safebridge roofing system features a patented bridging system to provide several advantages over other roofing systems while conforming to the Building Code requirements of Section J.

Key advantages of Safebridge roofing system:

  • Safety mesh can be laid by workers secured within a scissor lift below the roof by using the Safebridge mesh trolley system that runs on the top face of the purlins
  • Mesh trolley eliminates manual handling of large rolls of safety mesh, reducing potential back injuries
  • Insulation blanket is positioned between the purlins, leaving the top face of the purlin fully exposed for workers to move around easily without the risk of tripping over fittings
  • Insulation is well secured below the top lip of the purlin, preventing it from becoming an airborne hazard on a windy day
In addition to on-site risk reduction, Safebridge also provides designers with peace of mind when it comes to a number of design elements compromised by spacer systems.
  • Does not elevate the height of the roof or compromise DA approval
  • Retains the original manufactured connection between the roof sheet and purlin, achieving the stated structural performance
  • Does not require additional facia panels or modification to gutters, eliminating material cost increases around the perimeter of the building
