    Bradford roof spacer systems help meet BCA Section J Compliance requirements for energy-efficient insulation

    Roof spacer systems from CSR Bradford Insulation are designed to help newly constructed commercial buildings meet the minimum energy efficiency standards mandated by Section J of the Building Code of Australia (BCA). Insulation plays a key role in achieving these energy-efficiency requirements.

    Choice of insulation is the starting point for achieving the best practice in addition to the BCA Section J requirement. The non-combustible inorganic fibrous insulation does not increase the fuel load in the building while offering high levels of thermal protection, noise dampening and condensation control.  

    A critical factor that needs to be considered during the building design phase but is often overlooked is that of the interface between the roof system and the insulation. The design must allow the correct amount of space under the roof sheet to ensure that the insulation can recover to its design thickness and provide its rated insulation value.  

    Failure to provide sufficient space will result in compression of the insulation between the roof purlin and the sheeting above, causing degradation of the performance characteristics of the insulation and subsequently reducing the full system rating.  

    Thermal bridging is also another consequence of insulation getting compressed by lack of sufficient space since the reduced space between the purlin and the roof sheet will allow increased heat gain or loss due to the highly conductive nature of the building materials.  

    Bradford roof spacer systems are designed to raise the roof sheet above the purlin, creating a defined space between the safety mesh and the roof sheet for the insulation, which will ensure the full recovery of insulation thickness.  

    Roof spacers therefore enable projects to surpass the minimum required levels of thermal performance.
