The winners of Edition 1 of Corian Design Awards Twenty17 have been announced.

The winners include Canberra Airport designed by Guida Moseley Brown Architects (GMB); Melbourne Museum designed by Museums Victoria; and Icare designed by dwp.

Canberra Airport

Corian® Colours: Salt

Why was Corian® chosen?

GMB selected Corian® for its design flexibility that allowed seamless integration in the new facilities at Canberra Airport. The material’s ability to curve and add fine detail to the geometric design aspirations developed for seating and table elements in the main waiting area was a major advantage. Additionally, the high quality durable surfaces would be easy to maintain.

Melbourne Museum

Corian® Colours: Hot, Sun, Mandarin, Antarctica

Why was Corian® chosen?

The design team identified Corian® as the only product that could meet the functional and aesthetic brief of the project. The ability of Corian® to be shaped across complex curved joinery forms, in combination with its extensive colour palette, allowed ambitious design concepts to be realised as high quality joinery and exhibition experiences. The world-class Children’s Gallery at the museum, which has received appreciation from visitors, also features Corian®.

Icare

Corian® Colours: Pearl, Natural Grey

Why was Corian® chosen?

Corian® was specified for its design flexibility and versatility that allowed the designers to create the forms they required for this project; the material was also sufficiently robust and hygienic for the application. The soft touch and smooth finish provide great contrast with the surrounding natural timbers and ceramic tiles.
