Terracotta shingle roof tiles from Boral Roofing were used to complete a new $20 million luxury residential care facility, The Empress in Adelaide.

Padman Health Care sought the look and feel of an exclusive five-star boutique hotel at its latest care facility and selected the premium Boral terracotta shingle roof tiles.

Spanning 6500 square metres, the Adelaide facility features 86 beds, extensive recreational facilities and a dedicated GP surgery, low and high-care rooms and specialist memory support unit.

Over 2,200 square metres of terracotta tiles were fixed to the roof, which included barge caps, finials and valley gutters.

Viv Padman, Executive Director of Padman Health, who oversaw The Empress’ design, said that the organisation prides itself on providing a luxurious experience for its residents and the right design and aesthetic is part of that objective. Since the facilities are ‘home’ to residents, the choice of materials and colour is important in creating an inviting and caring environment.

Mr Padman added that they wanted The Empress to have a classic elegance and the colour Feldspar complemented the charcoal and navy accents that feature across the facility’s interior and exterior.

The simple flat shape of the Boral terracotta shingle roof tiles also creates clean, uncomplicated lines to complement the neat appearance of the facility’s exterior.

Terracotta shingle tiles offer an ideal roofing solution for those seeking design flexibility and lasting colour. Available in a range of colours to offset their natural earthy composition, Boral’s terracotta roof tiles feature premium colour fast properties with the outstanding colour performance achieved during the firing process at temperatures of 1100°C, which provide a finished tile resistant to harsh UV exposure and pollutants.

Built to last, Boral terracotta roof tiles come with a 50-year warranty and are virtually maintenance-free, offering a durable roofing solution for facilities such as The Empress.
