The Royal Australian Institute of Architects and BHP Steel h ave announced a new student prize to honour one of Australia’s foremost architects. The Glenn Murcutt prize will be sponsored by BHP Steel and awarded in conjunction with the RAIA Student Biennale.
The prize will be awarded to a student studying in an accredited Australian architecture course whose work demonstrates excellence in response to place, technology and Australian culture.
The prize recognises Murcutt’s achievements and his inspiration in designing supremely elegant and liveable steel buildings. Murcutt, the winner of the 2002 Pritzker Prize, was described by the Pritzker jury as “a modernist, a naturalist, an environmentalist, a humanist and an ecologist.”
The Glenn Murcutt student prize winner will receive $10,000 cash and the winning entry will be exhibited with the RAIA Student Biennale. Entrants will be nominated by the heads of Australian schools of architecture and judged by a panel that will include Glenn Murcutt or his nominee.
