What’s in a name? Ask leading Australian steel building products company, BlueScope Lysaght. Formerly known as BHP Steel Lysaght, the company has now changed its name in accordance with its parent company - Australia’s biggest steel manufacturer, BlueScope Steel Limited.

BlueScope Steel produces about 60 per cent of Australia's overall steel production, and supplies around 80 per cent of all flat steel products sold in Australia and New Zealand. With more than 11,000 employees located in 20 countries, BlueScope Steel is playing an increasing role in the revitalisation of the global steel industry.

BlueScope Lysaght sees its new name as a positive step forward. The reasoning behind the name is simple. The colour blue has always been traditionally associated with the company and its brands, and also represents clear skies and wide horizons. Scope suggests new opportunities, unlimited possibilities and the ability to grow and develop in new directions.

According to Bob Moore, President of BlueScope Lysaght Australia, the new name reflects the company focus on moving ahead, while staying in touch with its heritage. “Our new name shows that we are completely focused on moving forward, with our customers. It represents a new start, and new possibilities, while we continue to offer the inspired and innovative steel building solutions that people have come to expect from the LYSAGHT brand.”

“We are fully committed to working with our customers to help them achieve their goals. The new name says it all – with BlueScope Lysaght, the sky is the limit,” added Mr Moore.

The company has gone through many exciting developments over the decades. John Lysaght (Australia) Pty Ltd, which was founded in 1918, pioneered modern steel coating technologies. The coated steel building products, sold under Lysaght’s famous ‘ORB’ brand, were a major contributor to the unique style of architecture that still dominates the Australian landscape. In 1979, the company was fully acquired by BHP Steel.

BlueScope Lysaght continues to manufacture and market the LYSAGHT® range of products, including roofing and walling, rainwater goods, fences, home improvements, structural sections and house framing. It exclusively uses premium steel products such as COLORBOND® steel, ZINCALUME® steel and GALVASPAN ® steel.
