For the AXA Docklands project, Hassell Architects' choice of the Barrisol lightweight ceiling system for the ceiling and for the atriums provided not only a striking appearance, but it also ensured a perfect finish without adding unnecessary weight to the structure. The panels featured in lacquer finish ‘rouge coquelicot’ (poppy red) offers drama and interest to the area. The multifaceted geometry of the architectural design of this fitout demanded high level construction skills in order to achieve these results. Vast areas of ceiling were designed in an abstract manner on multiple planes resulting in a series of ceiling levels and shapes.
The use of a wide range of modern materials including timber veneer, mirrored laminate, acoustic panels, stainless steel barrisol and plasterboard required accomplished craftsmanship to construct to such high standards. Careful attention has been given to detailing in this technically challenging project by the builder.
