Kate Carnell AO, Chair,
Australian Forestry Standard Ltd presented the award for Australian Certified
Timber to Nick and Sunny Wilder of WilderCoyle Furniture & Design for the
House of Cupboards at the 15th Australian Timber Design Awards presentation night in
Sydney on 18 September.
In their entry, the designers described extensively how
the timber was sourced and followed along the supply chain accompanied by
appropriate documentation.
AFS Ltd has sponsored the Timber Design Awards for a number of years as a way
of recognising and rewarding building designers and their clients for using
timber from certified forests in Australia. The majority of Australia's forest
managers manage their forests well and demonstrate this by being certified to
the Australian Standard® but it is equally important that Australian consumers
of wood and paper products play their part by only specifying and using
products from certified forests. While many users are doing the right thing,
this behaviour needs to be rewarded and questions must be asked of those who
use wood products without understanding where they came from.
