The urge to become a member of Australian Acoustical Society must be made on a form, which is available from the general secretary or a division secretary. Application forms must have the applicants’ signature and two proposers who have detailed information about the applicant should endorse it.

One of the two proposers must have a Fellow or a Member grade in the Australian Acoustical Society. The Federal Council Society gives the final decision regarding the grade membership offered to an applicant. This process often consumes time, thus the names of applicants for members, associates, graduates and student grades are included on the society mailing list so that they can receive the benefits of the society membership.

A member who wants to change his membership grade in the Australian Acoustical Society should fill a new application, which states the extra qualification and experience he/she has acquired. Two proposers must again support the applicant in the usual manner. There is no entrance fee for members who wish to change their existing membership grade.

An award program is conducted by the Queensland Division to encourage and support research and education in acoustics in Queensland. These awards are granted on an annual basis to two divisions namely, the school division and the tertiary division.
