Australand  will soon begin work on a long-awaited skate park located in the Greenhills Parklands adjacent to their beachside residential development off Captain Cook Drive.

Sutherland Shire Council approved the development application for the skate park this month. The construction work will be completed in 16 weeks, with the skate park to be operational by September this year.

Australand is building the skate park as part of its development of the Greenhills Beach master planned community where the first homes are now well under construction. The residential suburb is linked to the beach by sand walking tracks and features a lake and ponds. The world-class skate park will be accessible by road as well as cycling and walking tracks, and is surrounded by an impressive native coastal landscape and heritage sand dunes.

Nigel Edgar, General Manager Residential Division NSW, Australand explains that the skate park is one of the contributions being made by the company to the community while creating the new beachside suburb.

Australand has engaged specialist skate park designer Convic to design and construct the new iconic Greenhills skate park in consultation with the local skating community groups.

Designed as a traditional dedicated skating space with multi-zoned areas to cater for all ages and skills, the Greenhills Parklands skate park will be spread across approximately 1400m² and will feature one closed bowl, two open bowls, mini ramps, transitions, flat-banks, granite coping and a street plaza course.

Australand and Breen Property, which is also developing a residential area at the southern end of Greenhills Beach, donated 91 hectares of parklands, including a sporting precinct featuring 10 playing fields and associated amenities to the Sutherland Shire as public space.

Australand and Breen also contributed $25 million for the development of the Greenhills Parklands, including construction of the skate park and the sporting precinct. Eventually, the management of the parklands will be handed over to the Sutherland Shire Council.

Greenhills Beach is the first beachside suburb to be established in the Sydney metropolitan area in more than 30 years. Australand had 236 lots across 19 hectares rezoned as residential as part of the development with more than half already developed and sold. The last of the residential lots will be developed and sold during 2013.

Tours of the site are also available by appointment.
