Brickworks Building Products continues to support the cause of childhood cancer research through its partnership with the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia (CCIA), Australia’s only independent medical facility dedicated to researching the causes, prevention, treatment and cure for childhood cancer.
Brickworks, one of Australia’s largest manufacturers and distributors of concrete and clay building products has been driving a series of initiatives and donations over the past decade that have helped raise much needed funds towards childhood cancer treatment research at the CCIA. Brickworks’ ongoing support has helped raise $251,000 to date.
The money has been raised through a number of company sponsorships and fundraising initiatives with staff, driven by Managing Director of Brickworks, Mr Lindsay Partridge AM, who was appointed a director of the CCIA board this year.
One of the initiatives involving Brickworks staff is the Casual Friday Program, which enables employees to wear a CCIA logo casual shirt on Fridays by making a weekly donation of $2.00. A huge success throughout the organisation, the program has helped raise $84,000 for the CCIA since 2009, with an additional $37,000 expected for the remainder of this financial year.
Over 600 children are diagnosed with cancer annually in Australia and the support from Brickworks has helped the CCIA provide new hope for diagnosed children, and significantly increase the overall survival rates for childhood cancer by helping fund investigations into new and urgently needed approaches to treatment.
Brickworks’ support has helped the CCIA purchase equipment essential to the success of their research including seven Thermo Fisher Scientific laboratory freezers, which hold standard stocks of materials and reagents used for everyday research, as well as samples for diagnostic testing from children currently participating in their important clinical trials.
General Manager for Marketing at Brickworks, Mr Brett Ward states that their funding initiatives reflect the dedication they share with CCIA towards ensuring children have the best possible outcome from these devastating diseases. He adds that continued funding will help the research effort in finding better ways to diagnose and treat childhood cancer.
