Latest research shows bricks in a passively designed house are energy savers. And, the thermal mass of bricks is an essential component in passive design in the sub-tropical environment in South East Queensland. Austral Bricks have always been at the cutting edge of new innovation and product development, using the latest brick making technology to create an exciting new generation of bricks.
“The new generation bricks are ideal for a Queensland architectural style often referred to as the ‘coastal look’ and you can have that look even in the suburbs," according to Brett Ward, Brickworks group marketing manager.
“Bricks are admired for their sculptural qualities and our new modern brick ranges combine with other materials such as glass, steel and timber to create designs that epitomise the region’s lifestyle.

“You can be as bold or as subtle as your mood takes you with more new dynamic colours than you would ever have thought possible with bricks. It is a totally new brick era where you have access to a whole spectrum of colours to give a creative edge.
“Our innovative new product, Colourbrick, is typical of the Austral Bricks’ advances with 27 stunning colours to select from. Colourbrick gives a rendered look without the initial cost of application and ongoing maintenance,” said Brett.
The Elements series from Austral Bricks feature beautiful matt and semi-glazed faces imparting a shimmering, silk-like finish and subtle sheen. Then there is the warm, sophisticated and stylish Urban one series with neutral colours to provide a perfect complement to contemporary designs.

Another addition to the Austral Bricks product range is the Bowral 50 series. Slim and elegant the Bowral 50 series bricks are just 50mm high, two-thirds the height of a conventional brick.
“For a totally different look there are the Fresco Sandstone bricks which are two-and-a-half times the size of standard bricks. They replicate the look of sandstone blocks and come in two light colours,” Brett Ward continued.
A newcomer to the Austral Bricks selection of designer products is GB Masonry. Now you can have the aesthetic qualities of real stone to create striking and stylish architectural features.
“Our bricks are durable, promising a long life. They don’t require paint, render or other finishes to maintain their good looks or durability. That means greatly reduced maintenance costs and more time enjoying the Queensland lifestyle.
“The brick houses perform well in all climatic conditions. A well designed house is warmer in winter and cooler in summer, ideal for South Queensland’s sub tropical climate,” says Brett Ward.
