Brickworks Building Products has partnered with Children’s Cancer Institute Australia (CCIA) in the fight against childhood cancer. CCIA is Australia’s only independent medical facility dedicated to researching the causes, prevention, treatment and cure for childhood cancer.

Throwing its full support behind this month’s National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Brickworks has implemented a fundraising initiative called ‘Round Up’, which enables Brickworks customers to make a donation to CCIA by rounding up the value of their product order. Brickworks has also put up two 10m x 10m billboards to help raise essential funds and promote awareness throughout September.

Mr Brett Ward, General Marketing Manager at Brickworks Building Products explains these initiatives are part of their ongoing commitment to CCIA, whose work has a tremendous impact on the lives of seriously ill children and their families. Brickworks’ initiatives have the potential to raise significant funds for CCIA. 

For over a decade, Brickworks has stood behind CCIA in their pursuit of breakthrough childhood cancer research with a series of company sponsorships and fundraising initiatives driven by Managing Director of Brickworks, Mr Lindsay Partridge AM, who was appointed a director of the CCIA board in 2012. 

To date, Brickworks has raised over $420,000 in donations, which have gone into advancing childhood cancer research including the purchase of cutting-edge research equipment, scientists’ salaries and laboratory consumables, enabling researchers to continue their vital work towards the development of better and safer treatments, more effective diagnoses and ultimately, a cure for children affected by the disease.

One of the ongoing fundraising initiatives at Brickworks has been the highly successful Casual Friday Program, which has raised over $89,000 since its inception in 2009. In return for a payroll donation of $2.00 every week, the employees are issued with a Care for Cancer Kids’ shirt to wear with their casual clothes on Friday.

Earlier this year, two senior executives shaved their heads for CCIA, raising over $62,000 thanks to the generous support from Brickworks’ suppliers, customers and staff.

According to Mr Ward, over 600 children are diagnosed with cancer annually in Australia and it is still the single greatest cause of death from disease in Australian children. By embracing fundraising initiatives and continuing to raise awareness about childhood cancers and the research programs dedicated to finding cures, better ways to diagnose and treat these devastating diseases can be made possible.
