NFC-enabled smart phones used for keyless entry and mobile lock control

    ASSA ABLOY

Several contactless services have been integrated into mobile phones, including payments, ticketing and loyalty. The same development has now emerged in the lock industry with access control and keys being now having the option of operating through NFC-enabled smart phones.

The smart solution of ASSA ABLOY Mobile Keys makes it possible for managers to administer credentials from a central access control system, easily issuing mobile keys to mobile phones with NFC technology.

The important information is stored in a tamper resistant memory space within the phone, known as a secure element. Credentials can be cancelled should the phone be lost or stolen and then new keys can be re-issued to a temporary phone.

The ASSA ABLOY Mobile Keys Platform guarantees end-to-end security and is applicable for access control and key control in residential, commercial and hotel applications.

Daniel Berg, Vice President and General Manager ASSA ABLOY Mobile keys explained, “ASSA ABLOY delivers tens of millions access cards every year. We believe the use of virtual access credentials and mobile keys will increase in the coming years. They offer not only higher security but also the simple convenience that users have come to expect as an increasing number of services become available through mobile phones. A decrease of smart cards will also have an environmental effect with less material used.”

Trials of the Mobile Keys Platform have been held at a major US university as well as at the Clarion Hotel in Stockholm, Sweden.

Additional information on keyless entry and mobile lock control is available from ASSA ABLOY.
